If you’ve never seen the Valley’s own concept band A life of Science (ALOS), it is a creative and ambitious music project. One that tells a Sci-Fi robot apocalypse love story expressed through multimedia that includes: music, comic books, videos, animations, and a novel. Each form renders the tale in a fashion unique and custom to the medium but also works in conjunction with the others to engulf the audience into another world. The band released and toured the country with the first two albums, The Apneist, and Vita Nova, and found an appropriate niche audience with comic convention goers. The overarching goal is to turn the entire project into a major motion picture.
Today the bands third album Crystal City was released in its eclectic futuristic music style. Difficult to pigeonhole, but as best I can describe it, it’s progressive-electronic-pop-
When asked what is different about this album, Keenan states that in previous albums he mostly co-wrote, whereas this one he was the primary writer. “Even though this trilogy is over, there’s plenty of room for more adventures,” says James. “Just like Star Wars or Lord of the Rings, there can be sequels and prequels. Before Jon Tate was born, his father was fighting valiant wars all over the world. When the current trilogy ends, Jon has an 8-year-old son who is already showing signs of mischief and adventure.
