I’ve been to a lot of concerts and seen a lot of bands, but I had never seen Hippo Campus live before. Not to mention, it was my first time taking concert pictures with professional grade equipment. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I definitely felt a mix of nerves and excitement. The opener, Sure Sure, was absolutely great. You never know what you’re going to get with opening bands, it seems like it’s pretty much hit or miss. But these guys were awesome. They definitely set a good tone for the rest of the night. After their set, Hippo Campus came on and I was just in awe. As I shot their first three songs, I don’t think my eye left the viewfinder in my camera for longer than 3 seconds. After my time taking pictures was up, I settled towards the back of the venue to enjoy the rest of the show. I usually like to be up at the front jumping around and going crazy but this time I decided to stay back and just really listen to the music. I can definitely say that Hippo Campus far exceeded any expectations I previously had. They were so incredibly talented. Lead singer Jake Luppen and lead guitar Nathan Stocker both had flawless vocals. In fact, the live version of their song “Monsoon” is possibly the most beautiful song I’ve ever heard. Without a doubt, this was one of the best concert I’ve ever been to and if anyone has the chance to see this band live, I would absolutely take advantage of the opportunity.
