Prog or frog, since you can’t be in both places at once …
Cassiopeia, Set And Setting, Creosote Mantra
Trunk Space 7:30 – $6 all ages
Get your brain melted with beautiful loud noises. Yes please make my ears bleed with pleasure. I absolutely love trippy, ambient, post rock/prog rock whatever kind of label you want to place on those 7-minute songs that makes you feel as though you’ve floated into outer space without hallucinogens. I’ve seen Cassiopeia before and they blew my lid off, so if you’re into experimental I’d highly recommend that you attend this show because Set and Setting is a touring band.
Boss Frog, Thin Bloods, Dolores
Crescent Ballroom 7pm – $7
The event says “Boss Frog and His Demon Concoctions are taking the stage at Crescent Ballroom this July 9th. Come out and dance with us.” Well hell yeah. The Thin Bloods, Formerly known as All My Friends, are just plain sick so if you haven’t yet seen them Tuesday is your night because they sound incredible in the Crescent Ballroom. In addition I just caught Boss Frog for the first time at Sail Inn Saturday and they have my vote for my most favorite newly discovered local band. I have no idea what to call their crazy music other than it has some blues and jazz influences, not a typical rock band. The front man is highly entertaining, complete with stomping, hip thrusting stage antics. The Boss alone is worth the price of admission, in the mean time enjoy this low-fi video.
Small Leaks Sink Ships, Wooden Indian, Future Loves Past, decker., Nicholas Villa and Friends, and special guest Dj: Sean Watson
Crescent Ballroom 8pm $8 – $10
The show of the summer last year included Future Loves Past, Mergence, Black Carl and What Laura Says – it was sold out and nothing less than spectacular. I have very similar expectations for this all-star line up. I’m not going to ramble on about how fantastic these bands are because if you read our blog (as you should) you already know that all of these bands have earned my endorsements. Joanne Yoshiko will be hosting this event that should be nothing short of fabulous. Complete with a red carpet photo area, video, and fashion correspondence — media, socialites, friends and fans will comingle in epic unprecedented entertainment and presentation. So if you have fancy threads bust them out and join in the fun. It’s Joanne’s birthday so make sure you buy her a shot. Insider tip: the encore chant for Small Leaks Sink Ships is “all-the-songs.”

The best Sundays are spent sippin and chillin. What you choose to sip and chill to is your biz but it seems to me that a cold beer and lazy tunes seem like a perfect way to wind down your weekend. Featuring Lager Jacks, Echolalia, Shepherds & Sailors, Justin Simison.
