I am back. I am back in a way that is not representative of the person I was when you last heard from me. I can’t lie or fake that I feel a lack of confidence coming back into the world of writing. I’ve been a busy gal. Between learning how to throw a proper punch, stocking up on multi-colored tights, making an ass of myself with obsessive behavior, taking down the Christmas lights, staring down my neighbor who is taking his sweet ass time to build our fence, allowing my mouth to get me into trouble and hugging my cats, I just haven’t had a moment to properly cover the haps amongst the local music community. Alas, I have returned and I’m hoping some of you still feel like my show suggestions are worthy of your time.
Wednesday 1/30- Justine Lim Cancer Benefit @ Long Wong’s
Cancer is a bitch, often relentless and unforgiving to the kindest of souls. As much as we all, no doubt, think cancer a horrible fate, there can be positivity in the midst of tragic situations. To watch communities come together to help a person in need or raise awareness for a certain cause, you find that the one thing everyone grasps onto (rather than each other) is hope. If we aren’t hopeful then what are we? If we aren’t trying to save a life, we’re trying to make one better. Local music fan, Justine Lim, was diagnosed with cancer and in turn the local music community has come together to raise some funds. Darkness Dear Boy, Rook, The Semester Review, Flamingo and AT7 are all playing and donating all proceeds from the event to the more than worthy cause. If you can’t attend the show but feel compelled to help this young lass out you can do so and learn more about her story at www.teamtini.com.
Friday 2/1- Avery EP Release Show @ The Sail Inn
I don’t have kids but I can only guess that releasing an album is a lot like having them. Witness the birth of Avery’s first EP and while doing so, witness good friends of theirs play with them in celebration of this new life form that will hopefully be the first of many to come. Joining them in this Friday night adventure is Future Loves Past, All My Friends, Playboy Manbaby, Tres Lunas, B.O.T.S, and The Riveras. Bonus: Get your ticket pre-sale for $7 and receive the EP for only $3. Hooray!
