It’s been a long time since I’ve actually gotten to say: there are too many good shows going on around town for me to see all of them. In homage of celebrating great music events in the valley, here is the list of events that get my stamp of approval.
Mother Mother & Fairy Bones at The Pressroom
I didn’t get this post up before the show but they didn’t need my help promoting, I just wanted an excuse to show off this sexy poster I designed. It was a great event, I’m sorry if you missed it (you should listen to me when I say to go to mention a show, just sayin.) Beef Vegan and KWSS did a great job filling up the venue, the sound was phenomenal, and the bands were amazing. A positive bonus: I got to see so many faces there that I know and love.
Active Child & Low Roar at Crescent Ballroom
Because: Come see them live on Thursday so you can drool in person. Words cannot express the feels here people. I know what you must be thinking, what’s so special about this Low Roar band? Low Roar just released their new Remix EP, available via BitTorrent. The EP features re-works of a number of songs off the band’s 2014 album, 0, which was lauded by NYLON, Pigeons & Planes, Indie Shuffle, The Line of Best Fit, PopMatters, and HillyDilly. The band put out a series of remixes from Grammy-winning producer Carmen Rizzo, Danny Saber, and Farao in advance of the EP, which received praise from Indie Shuffle, All Things Go, and Under the Radar Mag. And if you can’t decipher all this industry speak, it means, come see the show!
There are multiple shows going on so good luck trying to decide
Emby Alexander Tour Kick Off at Rebel Lounge
with Snake! Snake! Snakes! Spiritual Warfare, The Dead Woods (Chicago), dent
Because: Emby Alexander, Snake! Snake! Snakes! and Spiritual Warfare are comprised of people who make music I both enjoy and respect. From performance, to songwriting, and musical skill, you should enjoy this show.
Bogan Via: EP RELEASE PARTY at Crescent Ballroom
with Grizfolk, Luna Aura, Michael Hooker
Because: Bogan Via is wonderful and you should check out their new tunes
Banana Gun at Last Exit Live
with Bear Ghost, Captain Squeegee, and Corey Gloden
Because: If you like rock n roll Banana Gun is tight live!
The Deep Down at Lost Leaf
Because: New funk band – put your hands in the air! What else do you need to know? These local musicians are bad asses and I’m so confident that they will be great that I am recommending them (also I might have heard a demo!) Jason McGraw – Guitar, Bry Poole – Bass, Danny Ivarson Aday – Drums, James T. Mitchell – Keys, Jaime Ali – Trumpet, Kenneth Leslie – Tenor Sax, Matthew Brian Cox – Alto Sax, Andy Gonzales – Trombone, Guitar
CLEOPATRA festival w Holy Visuals at Trunk Space
with Jaguarsun, NYRU, Doll Skin, Sunset Voodoo and DEATH BEAM
Because: Jaguarsun musically is the business. Personally, Eric doesn’t live here in the valley anymore so enjoy it while you can — because he’s a legit human being who supported many musicians in the valley during his time here.
Field Tripp at Crescent Ballroom
with The Lonesome Wilderness, PRO TEENS, Saddles
Because: Dan of Field Tripp knows how to write great songs, and he’s handsome. Those are my reasons, you might have other reasons. But anyway — PRO TEENS if you remember St. Ranger, some of the members of that band formed PRO TEENS so they are great. Also Saddles put out one of my most beloved pop albums since I’ve lived here so — just do it.
Please enjoy this bizarre self deprecating video from Tripp
